Was the PM telling porkies about child tax credits?

Last Updated: September 26, 2015By

Jeremy Corbyn, the Labour leader, will … come close to accusing David Cameron of lying during the general election campaign, when the prime minister said he had no plans to cut child tax credits.

Corbyn will highlight the prime minister’s remarks, made in a special general election edition of Question Time on 30 April, when Cameron said that child tax credits had increased by £450 under his government, adding: “That’s not going to fall.” Just over two months later George Osborne announced in the summer budget that tax credits and universal credit will be limited to the first two children from April 2017.

The new Labour leader, who is to launch a campaign highlighting the impact of the government’s cuts to tax credits, said: “This raises fundamental questions of honesty in politics. It is difficult to believe David Cameron did not know that the Tories were planning to make these cuts when he made those comments to the British people during the general election.”

About 3 years ago CaMoron visited various bad floods in the West Country. He said “Money is no object” in his quest to prevent recurrence. Within 3 months of his words he had cut the budget for flood defences.

The gilded toff nasties tell blatant filthy lies to get elected. This is neither note or news worthy, sadly.
The tragedy is the gullible media trained, blue rinsed, zombie masses swallowed any of it and will never question the deceit unless told to do so by their trainers.

If my memory is correct, during the televised party leader hustings Cameron was asked by a member of the audience if he was going to cut child tax credits and he replied he would not.

I thought he also said it would only effect new applications only and existing large family claimants would not be impacted. Many rank ‘n file voters were not impressed by the lack of clarity as to where all the benefits cuts were going to fall but in our hearts we knew this was just the usual tory tricks department and the impact will be coming sooner rather than later and the poor would be subsidising this so called bail out. .
