Cameron accused of misleading steelworkers over £80m aid fund
David Cameron has been accused of misleading steelworkers losing their jobs after it emerged an £80m fund to help them find new work will partly be used to pay their final salaries and redundancy packages.
Anna Turley, the Labour MP for Redcar, said she had seen an email to a constituent from James Wharton, the northern powerhouse minister, that confirmed the aid cash to support the workers was actually also a bailout fund for salaries they were due from their employers.
The prime minister said the government had done a lot to help the thousands of steelworkers being made redundant in Teesside and elsewhere.
But he also insisted the closure and mothballing of steel plants was a world problem largely beyond the UK government’s control.
“Let me tell the honourable lady what we can’t do. We can’t, in this house, set the world price of steel,” he said.
Why not? He wanted you to believe Labour started a worldwide economic recession – in that house! Setting the price of steel should be child’s play in comparison.

Did anyone expect anything open and decent?
Yet another example of Cameron’s lips moving, telling lies. One wonders if he is functionally capable of drawing breath and not lying?
The Tories want to replace Trident, as do too many others in the HoC, but he is letting the only steel plant in the UK that can make the specialist steel FOR trident close! It’s an absolute disgrace, they are ruining the UK for all manner of short term monetary gain for their crony class. He’s starving families to raise cash to pay the Chinese to build potentially a static nuclear bomb, which while it is churning out power (inefficiently, bad design) we will be paying double the market price for 30 years, deskilling our own engineers and reduced to providing hotel services for their workforce for 10 years. We will be importing Chinese steel to build the homes needed for the forseeable future. What is it going to take for the majority to say “enough”, and turn on the ones who really do hate the British / Britain?
The steelworkers have been well and truly stuffed with another blatant porky pie!
Add this to the other lies, especially on working tax credits and i think we have the measure of the man.
Camoron and his bunch have once again shafted the people of Teesside and more working class people out of their livelihoods and money, what about Scottish Widows and their pensions that were not being paid into, will that be looked into, doubt it, government probably knew about that and were probably getting a kickback from it.
Their aid package is a joke; government is continuously dipping into it to pay for others things, the rate they’re going, they’ll be no money left for the workers, or is that their agenda, there’s some dodgy dealings going on here that should be investigated, I smell skulduggery on the tories part but then again, what do you expect from upper class, greedy, chinless wonders!
