Thicky Nicky thinks ‘Grinch’ Osborne will soften his ‘tax credits’ blow. Fat chance!

Last Updated: October 25, 2015By

“Nicky… Nicky? Hello? Nicky? She’s distracted. She’s seen something – up on the ceiling! It’s a light. She thinks it’s pretty. That’s another interview ruined, then. She’ll be looking at it for hours.”

Even if ‘Thicky’ is right and ‘Grinch’ is considering some kind of mitigation for the tax credit cut, he’s still going to ruin Christmas for a large number of people!

Still, she’s only Education Secretary. Her job is privatising schools, not seeing the looks on the children’s faces after they’ve been told Santa can’t afford the presents they want.

Nicky Morgan, the education secretary, has become the most senior cabinet member to suggest that George Osborne will soften the impact of tax credit cuts when she said the chancellor was “in listening mode”.

Morgan indicated that senior ministers were aware of the furore over the cuts when she told BBC1’s Andrew Marr Show that people would be very concerned when they receive formal notification of the changes to their tax credits.

The education secretary said that there would be no change to the main policy, but she indicated the chancellor may take action to mitigate the effects of the cuts.
