Freedom of Information Act: 103 stories that prove Chris Grayling wrong

Last Updated: October 30, 2015By

According to Conservative MP Chris Grayling, journalists “misuse” the Freedom of Information Act to create stories. His comments came at a time when the government is trying to weaken the FoI Act.

However, journalists from national, local, trade press, generally – there will always be some exceptions – use the transparency legislation to access and public information that’s being kept secret; it’s information that’s in the public interest.

So, here’s 103 examples proving Grayling wrong. All of these stories contain information published from FoI requests.

What sort of government is it which finds it necessary to create a secret society to cover up its arrangements?

Grayling has always been a nasty piece of work – likewise, Duncan Smith. It beats me how a modern democracy can accommodate such people. But, remember, the tory party is the creature of Murdoch, The Daily Mail, the Daily Express, the Daily Telegraph and other sections of the media. The Media which gave us Tebbitt and Thatcher now throws the likes of Grayling at us. Some argue that the electorate aren’t influenced by the media, but why is the tory media so active if they have little influence. I think that the likes of Murdoch; The Express pornographer; the Barclay twins and Lord Rothermere allied with the big Corporations and the likes of Osborne sucking up to the Chinese with our money create a system which is a democracy in name only.
