Zac Goldsmith criticised over betting industry donations to mayoral campaign

Goldsmith’s campaign is in a right(-wing) mess, it seems.

Dodgy donations, on top of accusations of racism on the doorstep – with references allegedly being made to Labour candidate Sadiq Khan as “the Muslim” (okay, that’s actually sectarianism, for all the pedants in This Blog’s readership), can only lead one to wonder: What next?

The Conservative mayoral candidate Zac Goldsmith has been accused of being too close to the betting industry following two recent donations to his campaign.

The MP for Richmond has accepted a £3,000 donation from the top gambling industry lobbyists, Camberton Associates, who represent major gambling firms including Ladbrokes.

Camberton is run by Mark Davies, a former Betfair executive, who writes a blog on the gambling industry.

What do they care, they have the western political system bought and sold!
Between them, Monsanto and the feckless lobbyists who prostrate themselves to the highest payers, the honest working mans chances for improving their lot is nothing more than a pipe dream – just more smoke and mirrors

Fitzdares? Have been gambling for 60 years and have never heard of ’em. Probably rich people gambling amongst themselves – no need to frighten the horses over that one. Mark Davies founded Betfair with 3 other guys some years ago (and outwitted every Big Bookmaker in the world by doing so) and is providing employment, as a result, for many British residents.
