As the person who posted this on Twitter commented: “Last week a woman murdered, today an old man punched, tomorrow a baby thrown out of a pram.”

Personally, I tend to believe somebody will be throwing their toys out of their pram the following day. Who that will be depends on the result of the referendum.

A 78-year-old man has been punched in the face while handing out Remain leaflets, it has been alleged.

The man was reportedly giving out the leaflets on a busy high street in Carlisle when he became involved in an altercation with another man, 52, about the upcoming EU referendum.

He was struck in the face and suffered minor injuries in the alleged attack.

The incident took place outside House of Fraser on English Street, Carlisle.

In a statement, Cumbria Police said they have arrested a man in connection with the alleged assault.

i have found the brexit people on our estate and elsewhere very threatening towards others

my advice to everyone is to keep your mouths shut when out or you could get a good belting round the ear from a brexit supporter

There is no doubt that the dishonest leave campaign has been openly inciting animosity and hatred.

We were in Chepstow a few weeks ago- we being me, my disabled sons who are 8 and 11, and my husband who had wandered away a bit with our tiny puppy and did not appear to be with us. I accepted a leaflet from a remain campaigner, and a leave campaigner just stepped from a doorway behind him and started following us. he got angrier and angrier, pointing at my sons (both autistic, plus older one has a leg injury and can’t run so we couldn’t escape) and shouting at their future is being ruined, and they will lose their school places*. My husband came over but was ignored- actually we all were in that he seemed to be shouting into the distance rather than seeing us as people. Eventually we got away but I was too shaken to go home that way and my older son (the more severely autistic) was still upset the next day.

    * in the case of the older one, the school place I got with help from the Equality Act, one of my favourite pieces of EU ‘bureaucracy’.

It seems to be the Brexit supporters who behave badly. It would be interesting to know if any of the Stay supporters have also behaved like hooligans.

I am very worried about the behaviour of a great many brexit supporters, should they not get the results they expect.

The crowds of ‘Leavers’ in Minehead’s main street this afternoon were quite intimidating if one intended to debate ‘Remain’. What foolish, unthinking people.

Don’t know whether it was a Brexit supporter or not, but there was a couple of nasty tweets the other day about Brendan Cox. Can’t remember the detail though. There are definitely some sick and twisted people about, that’s for sure!
