Hislop tackles BBC news bias – on satirical BBC news show

Last Updated: May 2, 2017By

Ian Hislop makes his point on Have I Got News For You.

This should be self-explanatory. Any readers who think the BBC isn’t biased against Labour and for the Conservatives should read the reports to which the source article links.

When Ian Hislop, editor of current affairs magazine Private Eye posed this provocative question about BBC bias on a BBC show, it was predictably awkward:

We should remember that Hislop is a satirist, and was arguably playing with reports and complaints of anti-Corbyn bias in the media in general and the BBC in particular.

Nevertheless, he makes an important point about media bias, particularly in national broadcasters like the BBC who stake their reputation on their impartiality.

In Theresa May’s own words, this is going to be ‘the most important election’ in her lifetime.

So it pays to call out bias and prejudicial reporting where you see it.

Yes I was very surprised by Hislops remarks…..he is usually very pro Conservative and non-labour. So very pleased even he was having a dig at the pretty obvious bias of an organisation that cleared has self preservation high on its fat agenda.

What a laugh a Tory calling the Tory BBC

I’m not so sure that Hislop is totally anti-Labour. He is, however, extreme in his dislike of Corbyn. Mmm, I suppose that does mean he’s anti-Labour as we knew it.

Slightly off topic, I was surprised this morning when I saw the BBC airing a section of Victoria Derbyshire which was criticising the DWP, PIP, sanctions, appeals etc. After all this time have they really just noticed or are they hedging their bets in case Labour win? At least they showed it, although it would have been better if not hidden away on a daytime, mostly-for-women show.

On Conservative blogs and Labour blogs BOTH sides bitch about the BBC being biased against them and for their opponents. To me this indicates that the BBC is probably pretty even handed and fair in the main. The problem come from the obvious fact that the government of the day, which is the power making laws and running he economy, is bound to get featured in stories more than anybody else which will probably makes the party forming the government seem to get more attention than other parties.

    Inevitable really.

If anything the worst fault of the BBC is believing information and data released by the government and repeating it as received wisdom even though it isn’t factually true. This seems especially the case when any news relating to “welfare” is concerned, when the BBC tends to report a falsely rosy picture of what is actually an ongoing disaster, costing lives and causing terrible misery to no good end.

Academic studies have shown the BBC is biased toward the Tories.
