The ballot box: This is still the most secure way of voting – putting it in the box yourself. But many people cannot attend on the day, which is why postal voting is allowed. What a shame the practice is being abused.

How nice of Conservative Steve Baker to admit that the Conservatives won the general election via corrupt practices.

I understand many people have complained that the number of postal votes in the 2019 election was far out of proportion with those in previous polls.

And we know that there was something dodgy about it because the BBC’s Tory propagandist Laura Kuenssberg was caught saying the Tories had most postal votes – at a time when they shouldn’t have been opened, let alone counted.

Right?

Now here’s a Tory telling us that what we all suspected is right:

I believe the overwhelming majority of my constituents would be shocked if they knew the extent of corrupt election practices and voter fraud which happen each time there is an election.

There is widespread abuse of postal votes.

I have received accounts of candidates visiting electors’ homes, demanding postal votes are completed in front of them, and then taking them away. I have testimony of one young woman’s unmarked postal vote being taken off her under duress by a relative and handed to a candidate. We learned about it because she wanted to cancel her postal vote so she could cast it again herself.

We cannot assume voters enjoy secrecy and freedom when marking a ballot paper at home. Only last week my agent reported to the Police evidence of the harvesting of postal votes.

He also writes about other corrupt practices.

Strangely though, it occurs to me that none of the practices he describes will be stopped – or even affected – by the introduction of compulsory voter identification measures proposed by his boss Boris Johnson.

Is this even more proof that the Tories will talk about tackling corruption, while actually failing to do anything about it – because they’re the ones who benefit?
