Oscar winners – and the Academy – call for peace in Gaza

Jonathan Glazer, director of Oscar-winner The Zone of Interest, has made a passionate plea for peace in Gaza at this year’s award ceremony.

The Zone of Interest won the Oscar for Best International Film at this year’s (2024) ceremony. It covers the life of Auschwitz commandant Rudolf Hőss and his family, living in the zone of interest next to the extermination camp.

The film’s connection with the Nazi genocide of the Jews meant Mr Glazer had a clear opportunity to discuss the Israeli genocide in Gaza – and he did not pass it up:

His speech continued as quoted below by Yonah Lieberman:

Here’s what he meant, for the hard-of-thinking who will try to hijack his words:

It was an excellent time to make such a statement because others present at the ceremony were also ready to declare their support for a ceasefire (and about time too):

Inevitably, the Zionists and genocide-supporters took Mr Glazer’s words and twisted them:

It was a transparent lie. What Mr Glazer said was that he refuted the hijacking of both his (and his collaborators’) Jewishness and the Holocaust by the Israelis who occupied Palestine (including Gaza) in order to justify the current genocide.

Meanwhile, here’s an Israeli rabbi:

This was an actual Jewish rabbi, demanding that an entire population should be destroyed, down to the last child. He is spitting in the faces of his own countryfolk who lived through the Shoah (or whose ancestors did) and in the faces of all those who have ever said, “Never again,” and meant it.

Who do you think is on the side of reason?
