Why is Wes Streeting lying about restoring junior doctors’ pay?
The health secretary has said the Labour government cannot afford the full pay restoration – a 35 per cent increase – that junior doctors have been demanding for years – but this is nonsense.
Chancellor Rachel Reeves can simply order the Bank of England to shake the magic money tree – that usually only exists for politicians if they want to support a war or give their friends a bung – and hand over the cash. To prevent inflation, she can simply tax the same amount back from the super-rich layabouts who’ve profited massively from Tory austerity policies and handouts over the last 14 years.
Oh no – wait… That’s right: Labour is now an ally of the super-rich and won’t do anything to combat inequality and restore a more equal society.

In fairness, Streeting has talked about a “journey” to reach pay restoration – but if he means reaching 35 per cent after inflation has increased the pay gap to 40 per cent or more, that’s also unfair and unreasonable.
And in the meantime it seems he will ask for concessions on “workplace issues”.
That’s unreasonable too. Why would doctors concede anything if Streeting isn’t helping them?
