Truce between Israel and Hezbollah will not help prevent genocide
The truce between Israel and Hezbollah will not help prevent genocide, according to the following cautionary words from Martin Odoni at The Critique Archives:
It is certainly a happy day for people in south Lebanon as they get a chance, some of them for the first time in months, to return home in comparative safety, at least for as long as the ceasefire holds.
There seems little doubt Israel’s incentive for accepting a ceasefire; they have panicked after a Lebanese attack the other evening managed to strike far deeper into Israeli territory than ever before, little-hampered by the latter’s beleaguered ‘Iron Dome’ air defences.
There will doubtless be some embarrassment in Jerusalem at being forced to agree terms.
But I do fear what all this holds for the people of Gaza… The Palestinians will struggle to hold off Israel Occupying Forces that can focus most of their resources on Gaza. The survivors have shown incredible courage, fortitude and perseverance to survive over a year of Benjamin Netanyahu’s genocidal onslaught, without a proper army to protect them. But with the population starving, disease-ridden and living in cityscapes of rubble, they cannot be expected to resist effectively any longer without the IDF fire being drawn elsewhere.
