There is no debate – Brexit is bad and should be scrapped.
That’s the point broadcaster Richard Bacon made a few days ago, here:
Yes, there are people who still argue that Brexit was a good thing. But from what point of view?
They seem to be blinkering themselves from the effect on the wider population and concentrating solely on the benefit for a tiny minority of businesspeople. If our politicians are listening to them, then they are not doing their duty properly because they should be working for everybody in the country.
And then people complain because Keir Starmer is trying to get a better working relationship with the EU than his Tory predecessors did. He is right to do so.
The argument that this may jeopardise relations with Donald Trump’s America is appreciated – but Trump is a businessman who wants something from the UK. We can bargain with him to get what we want in return.
And yes – that could make the UK the bridge between the US and the EU. Think what fortune that could bring to us, if done properly.
