Do you accept Rachel Reeves’s reason for accepting freebie concert tickets?

After Laura Kuennsberg raised the issue, this is a good moment to ask: do you accept Rachel Reeves’s reason for accepting freebie concert tickets?

Reeves accepted free tickets to sit in a corporate box to watch a Sabrina Carpenter [pictured] gig at the O2 arena.

The revelation reignited the ‘Freebiegate’ scandal that Reeves’s boss Keir Starmer probably thought he’d killed after repaying £6,000 worth of gifts and donations and changing the rules on ministers accepting them and other gestures of hospitality.

The Ministerial Code now requires MPs to consider the “need to maintain the public’s confidence in the standards of propriety” when deciding whether to accept gifts.

So, while interviewing Reeves today (March 23, 2025), Kuennsberg asked – as I have in the past:

Is it proper to accept concert tickets worth £475-900 each, prior to throwing the most vulnerable people in society deep into poverty?
