How will Starmer impose targets on an increasingly-privatised NHS?
This seems straightforward – but it isn’t:
Blair-style NHS targets will return under Labour government Sir Keir Starmer says https://t.co/GdO07fLl0Y

Keir Starmer can’t “do the same thing” as the last Labour government because of the exponential increase in privatisation demanded by the Tories since 2010.
As prime minister, he would not have the ability to force private companies to do anything; they could simply tell him it’s their way or no way – threaten to leave him without vital health services that the Tories gave away to them over the years since 2010.
There is no regulator of health services in the UK – and even if there was, it could not enforce any arbitrary targets set by a UK government. Look at Ofwat’s record in getting the privatised water companies to do… well, anything!
Come to that, look at the current, Tory, government’s failure to get any results from private health firms, despite having paid them huge amounts of money.
Starmer must know this, if he has paid any attention to what has been going on with privatised utilities and services in the UK.
So when he says he’ll introduce targets for the health service, he’s either stupid, or lying. Or so it seems to me.
