Electoral Commission to investigate Arron Banks’ Brexit donations. All together now: ‘Who?’

Most readers of Vox Political will know Arron Banks was a major funder of the Leave campaign in the run-up to the EU referendum.

But that’s because we’re all hugely educated followers of political affairs.

Much of the rest of the UK’s population probably wouldn’t know him from Adam, and may confuse the two if their spelling is bad or the ink runs in a document with Mr Banks’s name in it.

And the possibility that he threw his money around in an unacceptable way will be alien to many – and the first resort of a cynical few.

The simple fact is that few people know much about this man, yet he worked very hard to wield a huge influence over the biggest decision taken by the UK in most of our lifetimes.

If it was undue, illegal influence, then there are knock-on implications for the referendum’s result.

But that leads to further questions. The establishment has dug its heels firmly into the ground whenever any possibility of reversing the decision for Brexit has arisen.

How much evidence do we need to void this obviously-dodgy decision?

The election watchdog has launched an investigation into whether donations and loans from the Brexit campaigner Arron Banks and one of his companies broke campaign finance rules in the run-up to the EU referendum.

The Electoral Commission will investigate donations worth £2.3m, assessing whether Banks was the “true source” of loans made in his name. It will also establish whether Better for the Country was the “true source” of donations made to Brexit campaigners or whether it was “acting as an agent” for some other source of funds. Banks is a director of Better for the Country and the majority shareholder.

The money given by Banks to Leave.EU in the run-up to the referendum was believed to be the biggest donation in British political history.

This is a very very interesting article on Open Democracy on Mr Banks. there’s also the question of his association with Cambridge Analytica which Carole Cadalladr has spent months investigating. From this is a link to Farrage, Assange, Brietbart, and Russia. There’s a huge web of deceit, lies, and dark money that links them all. It would appear Russia wants the West completely destabilised to be able to pick us off one by one and pick over the bones.

Personally, I think the Fraud Squad should be investigating this dubious character.
