Jeremy Corbyn says carers are ‘grossly underpaid’ and vows to hike budget by £8bn – Mirror Online
Jeremy Corbyn has said care workers are “grossly underpaid” and pledged £8 billion of extra funding for social care if elected.
The Labour leader made the comments during a visit to Milton Keynes University Hospital on Thursday morning, where he toured the A&E and cancer wards and spoke to patients.
He called the present social care budget “insufficient” and promised to increase funding by £8 billion over the course of a Parliament if elected.
Mr Corbyn also spoke about the pressures faced by A&E staff.
He said hospital workers he talked to in Lincoln last week had told of treating patients in ambulances in hospital car parks when all bays in A&E were full.

Right enough, but it’s obvious the focus here is on minimum wage carers. What about family carers? I too am a carer and although my Carer’s Allowance has gone up every year the same amount is instantly deducted from my Income Support. And I get hassled by the job centre to boot. Give up your life to caring, save the government a fortune and get treated like a criminal for your trouble.
My carer gets precisely nothing for doing the job
