POLL: Is an insult to Andrea Leadsom more important than Theresa May’s insult to thousands?

Last Updated: May 18, 2018By

Andrea Leadsom and John Bercow.

Spot the double-standard; it won’t be too hard.

Theresa May spends years pursuing a racist immigration policy that deports people with every right to stay in the country and when the scandal is revealed, she orders her MPs to protect her by hiding the facts.

John Bercow allegedly insults one of Mrs May’s allies* and she as good as demands an investigation to reveal the facts.

I have a simple question: Which matter is the more important for the good governance of the UK?

It isn’t rhetorical. I want to know what you think.

Theresa May has said there should be an investigation if a complaint is made over allegations that John Bercow, the House of Commons Speaker, called Andrea Leadsom a “stupid woman” in heated exchanges after prime minister’s questions.

But MPs have said the Commons system of investigation is too flawed to do an effective job.

In the Commons on Wednesday, Bercow was overheard swearing under his breath after he criticised Leadsom for arranging government statements that took up time intended for a Labour debate on Grenfell.

An opposition MP told Leadsom what they had heard. She is understood not to want to raise a complaint personally and so far no one has lodged a complaint with the standards commissioner.

If a complaint were lodged, it is thought this could allow [the standards commissioner] to investigate … historical allegations of bullying.

*I can’t stop imagining Mr Bercow as Rene Artois and Ms Leadsom as his wife Edith in the old sitcom ‘Allo ‘Allo:

Leadsom: Rene! Why are you trying to block me from making government statements?

Bercow: You stupid woman! Can you not see that your scheduling of these statements in time allotted to an Opposition Day debate makes Parliament look biased in favour of the Conservatives? It opens us all up to legitimate criticism and could end up getting us lynched!

(Something like that.)

Berceuse is expected to chide the mp’s for making remarks that he did, who was the actual recipient of his behaviour is irrelevant, it was the action that matters.

Andrea Leadsom IS a stupid woman but aside from my own opinion, is she stupid or was her action/deliberate?

What is funny is that Leadsom herself hasn’t made a complaint; it’s people out to get Bercow that are kicking up a fuss.
