UK inflation rises to 2.5 per cent. Kiss your pay rise goodbye

Last Updated: August 16, 2018By

Prices are rising again, meaning the cost of goods will outstrip wage increases.

Agree with Peter Stefanovic: As UK inflation rises to 2.5% it’s easy to see why our brave hero police, who run towards danger as we flee, say their 2% pay increase is an insult.

“In real terms its a 0.85% increase, a measly £2.50 a week for many hardworking officers up & down the country.”

Inflation rose to 2.5 per cent last month – the first increase in the rate in 2018.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) reported that the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose by 2.4 per cent year on year in June, with the increase in line with expectations from City of London analysts.

Inflation per se is not a bad thing it frequently indicates a growing economy as long as the currency is stable, however the economy will grind to a halt if the spending power is reduced, something Osborne Hammond and the EU have failed to grasp with austerity measures.

What pay rise? My pay has been pretty much static for about 18 years!
