Nicaragua launches court fight to stop Germany selling weapons to Israel

Nicaragua has asked the International Court of Justice to order Germany to halt military arms exports to Israel and to resume its funding of U.N. Palestinian refugee agency UNRWA.

According to Reuters,

Nicaragua’s agent ambassador Carlos Jose Arguello Gomez told the court Berlin had violated the 1948 Genocide Convention by continuing to supply Israel with arms after ICJ judges ruled it was plausible that Israel violated some rights guaranteed under the genocide convention during its assault on Gaza.

Israel has denied allegations of genocide and said it has the right to defend itself.

Yes – about that…

Plus – and let us not forget this, please: Israel is an occupying power. As such, it has a duty of care toward non-combatants in Gaza that is clearly being violated many times every day – as the death toll of around 40,000 Gazans, including around 15,000 children, makes starkly clear.

The Nicaraguan representative went on to suggest that Germany knows what Israel is doing and is therefore an accessory to that country’s crimes:

Germany was set to give its answer to Nicaragua’s claims on Tuesday (April 9).
