Brexit ‘concession’ by David Davis is a SHAM – don’t believe the Tory/Leave-supporting press
Brexit Secretary David Davis read out his “concession” to Parliament as though he had never seen it before.
It’s amazing the government – what remains of it – and its ever-supportive press corps are still pushing lies at us and expecting us to follow them.
Today’s whopper involves the claim by David Davis that Parliament will have a chance to vote on whether to accept or reject a final deal with the European Union on the UK’s departure from the bloc.
According to BBC News, Mr Davis said the terms of the UK’s exit, such as money, citizen rights and any transition must become law via a new Act of Parliament.
Here are the catches – for there are several:
It is a take-it-or-leave-it vote; as James Wallbank notes below, MPs will have a choice between “this terrible deal” or “totally catastrophic no deal”.
If the only choices they're given are "this terrible deal" or "totally catastrophic no deal" then there'll be no real choice. Only with Brexit delay or cancellation as options will it be a meaningful vote.

Brexit delay or cancellation are not included. James Dyson, Boris Johnson, Michael Gove and allegedly Rupert Murdoch and Paul Dacre wouldn’t like it.
Then there’s the question of when the vote will take place. Robert Peston advises caution here:

So, Parliament will get a chance to vote on whether to accept a deal, after it has been put into effect. It is utterly pointless.
In fact, it seems to This Writer that the only reason Mr Davis has put this forward is to give Tory backbenchers a reason to support the EU Withdrawal Bill and vote down the 186 pages (!) of amendments to the EU Withdrawal Bill that have been put forward by Opposition parties.
As you can tell, the EU Withdrawal Bill has a lot wrong with it.
Meanwhile, round six of the Brexit talks between Mr Davis and Michel Barnier has ended inconclusively, with Mr Barnier giving the minority Tory government just two weeks to clarify how much it will pay as the so-called ‘Divorce Bill’.
Mr Davis has rubbished the ultimatum, but Mr Barnier has gone on to say that he is preparing for the talks to collapse, leading to a ‘no deal’ Brexit no matter what the Tory Brexiteer may say.
In this case, the assurance that Parliament will get a vote on the deal is doubly pointless, of course.
In fact, let’s face it – Brexit is a losing proposition for the people of the UK, apart from a few rich corporates who want to use it to strip the rest of us of any of the remaining rights our ancestors fought hard to win for us.
All the evidence shows that it will be an economic disaster, with the poorest (that’s 99 per cent of us) suffering the most. Look at the performance of the Pound on the markets recently. Look at the number of companies migrating away from the UK, or preparing to do so. Look at the plan to use “Henry VIII” powers to change laws without Parliamentary scrutiny.
Our best bet is to remove the Tories from government at once and persuade Labour to check whether the people of the UK still want to go through with this fiasco.
Saying, “We already had a vote; the people have spoken,” when it has now been proved that most people based their vote on lies that the media failed to counter, simply isn’t good enough.

Oh the irony, says a Scot.
There seems to be two parallel debates going on about Europe. 1. is that exiting Europe will damage Britain, without recognising that even before the referendum Britain’s economy has been broken.
2. The Tories actually want a global free trade agreement, that has crashed our economy and the rest of the world with it.
The real point to all of this is that inside Europe and outside it we are faced with the same dilemma, that Neo-Liberal governments on both sides of the channel are destroying western civilisation as we know it, Just look at the way Europe treated Greece and the attitude of politicians like Merkel that blamed all Greeks as Lazy and wanting pensions that they can’t afford, attacking the very policies that pro Europeans say they want to preserve.
My view is stand back from all the political rhetoric and examine what it is we really want, and how we can achieve it, but just say that staying in Europe will guarantee that we will be better off or that leaving will endanger losing our rights, is clearly dependent on who governs our country.
That is why we need to focus on getting a Labour Government elected as the main priority, dedicated to preserving the interests of all the people and not just the business fraternity.
Outside Europe with a Labour Government we can rebuild our country and instigate legislation for the benefit of all without European market dogma impeding it.
