Covid-19: Tories sign deal for 90 million more vaccines – but how many do you think will turn up?

It seems very impressive on the face of it.

The Tory government reckons it has signed deals to receive 190 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines from three different sources.

90 million of the vaccines are being researched by an alliance between the pharmaceutical companies BioNtech and Pfizer as well as the firm Valneva.

The Tories have already signed a deal for 100 million doses of the Oxford University vaccine being developed by AstraZeneca.

But how many are we going to see?

These Tories are brilliant at saying they’ve done deals for all kinds of equipment and the like.

In the Covid-19 crisis we’ve had promises that huge supplies of personal protective equipment (PPE) were on the way. They weren’t.

The Tories promised that thousands of ventilators were being manufactured to help vulnerable people beat the virus. They weren’t.

They also promised that thousands more had been secured from foreign sources. They never arrived.

And the vulnerable patients died.

The Tories promised a “world-beating” track-and-trace system to locate and isolate anybody who has been in contact with people known to have contracted the disease.  It doesn’t work.

And personal details of patients have been broadcast over the social media.

We don’t know if any of these vaccines will work either.

The Oxford vaccine appears safe, with trials showing it triggering an immune response – but it is still too soon to know if this is enough to offer protection and larger trials are under way.

As for the others… This Writer will believe in them when we see them.

This is what Kate Bingham (Chair of the UK Vaccines Taskforce) has had to say on the subject.

“The Vaccine Taskforce is investing in a diverse portfolio of vaccine candidates to maximise the chances of finding a vaccine quickly that meets the UK’s rigorous regulatory and safety standards.
“The fact that we have so many promising candidates already shows the unprecedented pace at which we are moving.

“But I urge against being complacent or over-optimistic.“

“The fact remains we may never get a vaccine and if we do get one, we have to be prepared that it may not be a vaccine which prevents getting the virus, but rather one that reduces symptoms.”

I suggest you do a little research into the 2017 excess death statistics blamed somehow by some on ineffective flu vaccine (I know from experience).
Millions of excess Blair Swine Flu vials were left over and were said to be be used instead by the Conservative Government.
I’m not suggesting some conspiracy theory but it certainly makes me apprehensive about what they will try to inject me with considering my present medical conditions.
