Starmer runs out of credibility – and cash – and runs to the rich as Labour supporters run away
Another chance missed: Keir Starmer’s Marr Show letdown was the first of two broadcasting balls-ups for the Neoliberal Democrat Labour leader last week. His party is losing members because the people won’t support him – so he’s running to the rich.
It should have been a cakewalk.
Boris Johnson’s Conservatives have screwed up the United Kingdom in the worst possible ways since before the December 2019 election. The leader of the main Opposition party should have had hearts and minds of the public, there for the taking.
But the leader in question was Keir Starmer, currently in charge of the Other Conservative Party, currently masquerading under the misnomer ‘Labour Party’.
When he gave his interview to Andrew Marr, the representative example of the public on Channel 4’s Gogglebox took a look – and the verdict was damning:

One doesn’t have to imagine how Starmer responded to this; in fact, one imagines this parody account has come close to the truth:

Result: well, party membership was haemorrhaging already but that flood hasn’t abated!
As a result, it seems Starmer’s cash is running out. How ironic that, now the party has been re-taken by the wing that reckons it’s better with money than the Left, it has spaffed all the extra cash accrued by the Left-wing leader up the wall.
So, in order to get money, it appears Starmer has copied the Tories again:

Think of the Conservative Party’s annual Black and White Ball fundraiser.
Of course, this information comes from Gabriel Pogrund*, who I wouldn’t normally trust to tell me what the weather’s like, but as there appears to be documentary evidence of this, I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt.

This Writer hopes Starmer fails to attract the cash.
Firstly, if he does get it, he’ll finish Labour:

Moreover: His version of New Labour is nowhere near as investible as Tony Blair’s; he has made too many public relations blunders (again, he’s like the Tories in that respect). The Andrew Marr/Gogglebox incident is only the latest.
And if the rich donors don’t come back, they won’t be able to give Starmer any more excuses to steer Labour even further into Toryism.
Then who will Starmer ask for help?
That’s why, while This Writer can’t go back there (at least, not at the moment), I tend to agree with the following:
Jeremy Corbyn ensured the Labour Party was ‘For The Many’.
Keir Starmer wants it to be influenced by ‘the few’.
Jeremy was right. Keir is wrong.

Monitor this situation closely. There may yet be a chance to bring democracy back to the UK.
*Pogrund wrote a story about This Writer in The Sunday Times that was riddled with falsehoods, for which that newspaper was forced to publish a lengthy “correction and clarification” almost a year later (it took me that long to go through the IPSO complaints process).

Perhaps certain unions should be looking to use their members cash in a different direction, the fight for Tory supporters is well and truly on, I just can’t see Scottish voters or the ‘red wall’ being won over by new new Labour now Brexit is in it’s last throws, for the first time ever I’m really questioning whether I could bring myself to put an X next to Labour in any vote
I assume this video hasn’t been heavily edited? I hadn’t seen this, because I don’t watch Marr anymore, but bl**dy h*ll! Isn’t the opposition supposed to oppose? I thought that was the idea? Or has politics changed that much, that that’s not what happens anymore? #confuseddotcom
It’s too late. The Labour party is finished. The rule book is too convoluted, overly complicated & open to insider abuse. E.g coup plotters, membership purge, anti-semitism smear campaign, PV trap, PLP etc, etc, etc…
I’ll wait for viable socialist alternative before bothering to vote again. But the way things are going, the UK will implode long before that happens.
I’m guessing that Keir and the majority of the red Tories that make up the PLP have a strategy. Hide from the opposition within the party so they give up and go away (taking membership funds with them). Kiss up to Murdoch (this hides his vacuous lack of policies). Line the policy hole with donor cash. Go to neo-liberal think tanks for ideas. Focus group them until they are bland enough to apply to everyone. Finally and most importantly…
…wait until the populous is so frustrated with the PM and the people that support him (late 2023) that we will take literally ANYONE else. Despite how frayed our nerves may be – if we reward this behaviour by voting for him, we are the problem. The lesson he (and his rich backers) will learn by gaining power – is that this works.
This is how democracy dies.
He must be challenged by the unions (which I doubt will happen) and from within the party. The papers will try to placate you and you may be targetted with oppo(sition) research. The “strategists” and legal sections of the party who are usually on the right (pro corporate to be more precise) will use every lever of the party rule book at their disposal. Some grassroots members will take it too far and be kicked out of the party for essentially not phrasing their argument correctly. This is going to get (politically not literally) bloody. If it doesn’t, the party won’t be worth voting for.
Think of it this way… If the shoe was on the other foot, how long would they wait to challenge Corbyn again?
Well from this lifelong Labour supporters viewpoint I find Starmer a big step forward from Corbyn.
He is electable, calm and in touch with the people who will decide which party is elected.

That’s one of the daftest posts I have read. Firstly, you have no evidence that Starmer is more electable than Jeremy Corbyn, whether that be in the form of polling, numbers of Labour votes cast, or party membership figures. In the first case, Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour was poling ahead of the Tories within months of his becoming party leader, and in the third, Labour membership is collapsing hence the party begging bowl reappearing.
Calm? Wait and see how ‘calm’ he remains when the Commons returns to full sittings and the Tory benches are in full cry. He will snap.

I’ve never trusted him and the more that I hear from him, the less I trust him. He’s a slimy as any Tory politician. He doesn’t give straight answers, he deflects, cleverly, I’ll grant you, he feigns ignorance and neatly maligns groups who deserve his support and sympathy. Why his obsession with alleged anti-Semitism? He’s an agitator. He has his work cut out, if he wants to earn my vote. Disillusionment is the word of the day. There is no Party, in that House, that can command my vote, not one!
