Now Israel apologists are trying to redefine the word ‘holocaust’

Last Updated: October 25, 2023By Tags: , , , , , ,

This is what a holocaust looks like (or at least one interpretation): and as the artist intends, it might accurately refer to what Israel is visiting upon Gaza now.

This is shameful from UK journalist Andrew Neil – and may actually be considered anti-Semitic:

The term “holocaust” may refer to any act of destruction or slaughter on a massive scale, especially by fire or nuclear war, according to the online dictionary This Writer just accessed.

But using it to refer to an act of terrorism that killed 1,400 people – horrific though that is in itself – may be considered a denial or distortion of the enormity of those events that are universally accepted as holocausts, such as that which happened to victims of the Nazis, including Jews, in the 1930s and 1940s.

That would be holocaust denial – which is considered to be anti-Semitic in the extreme.

And that could be a reason people are pushing very hard against this attempt at holocaust revisionism, either in the form of claims that one happened on October 7…

… or in criticism of (in this instance) an article by an Israeli genocide scholar, explaining why October 7 cannot be compared with the Holocaust, and that Israel and its apologists should stop weaponising the word:

That International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) ‘working’ definition of anti-Semitism is starting to look a little tattered, what with all this jiggery-pokery by the Israeli government. I wonder how heavily it will need to be edited in order to accommodate all this nonsense.

I’d like to add a new expression to the Israel situation…

    …corbynated

This is where someone who criticises Israel, like the UN general secretary, is accused on being an antisemite?

By definition would Churchill’s actions causing the Bengali Famine killing Millions be a Holocaust?
