Falter's falsehood about anti-Semitism has failed.

Falter’s falsehood about anti-Semitism has failed. Right?

The evidence seems clear. Gideon Falter was trying to cause trouble at a pro-Palestine march, in exactly the way described by police. If that’s right, Falter’s falsehood about anti-Semitism has failed.

The Campaign Against Antisemitism chief had claimed that he was “trying to cross the road” – across the path of the marchers – when police stopped him. He also claimed that police interfered because he was “visibly Jewish”, implying anti-Semitism by the marchers and the cops.

But a video clip publicised by Sky News had provided evidence that neither claim was accurate; the policeman who stopped Falter had said the reasons were because “your behaviour changed… You then decided to walk into the road, not to cross it but to walk against the flow of people,” and “not … because you are exclusively Jewish.”

Now we have video showing Falter and his entourage actually trying to walk against the flow of the march before being ushered off the road by police. This could be interpreted as provocative behaviour by marchers and it is certainly understandable for the police to feel the same way:

The belief that Falter has presented a “false picture” of what happened is certainly held by former Metropolitan Police Chief Superintendant Dal Babu. Here he is on BBC Breakfast:

He also said this on Radio 4:

Finally (for now), it is hard to believe the truth of Falter’s claims when his response to someone confronting him with facts is to say he doesn’t want to debate with that person:

This Site is open to new evidence, if it shows that Falter was right in what he was asserting and that he wasn’t doing as the police officer who stopped him and the former Chief Superintendant claimed.

Lacking that, what we can see and hear of the incident seems clear.

And Falter’s falsehood about anti-Semitism has failed.
