Why are so many people getting riled up over Jeremy Corbyn and the ‘people’s vote’?

Since Theresa May reached out to Jeremy Corbyn for Labour’s help to get a Brexit deal that Parliament can approve, it seems a lot of people are getting a bee in their bonnet about the so-called “people’s vote”.

They’re accusing Mr Corbyn of failing to honour his obligations by failing to demand a new referendum on whether to go through with an agreed version of Brexit or cancel it altogether.

It’s all very odd, considering – well, let’s allow Mr Corbyn to explain it himself:

So he has discussed a new referendum with Mrs May.

It seems some people are only hearing what they want to hear.

We had the people’s vote in 2016 we returned the answer the political class never expected now they want to ignore the people’s vote after not really trying to carry out the order they were given and the mandate to leave. The whole idea of having another vote might be democracy Eu style but it isn’t democracy British style. The elite losers vote whatever the outcome would have no legitimacy because if you just reject one vote, why would another have any credibility? Sourbry summed it up well when pushed in parliament what will happen if it is a close vote for remain , she answered that will be it all over and we never ask again, that is the problem the remainers are never going to accept they lost.

So there can’t be any legitimacy if Mrs May gets her deal through on the fourth attempt, because it isn’t democracy British style? Nice to know.

It is interesting that Parliament’s majority of a single vote carried but 17.4 million don’t. There are too many double standards, at play, for me to know what is what. If you can figure it out, Mike, you’re a better man than I.
Why is it that people who want a people’s vote (I’ve no idea of who voted in the Referendum) are accusing Jeremy Corbyn of betraying them when, £abour said, at the last election, that it would honour the result of the Referendum. What do people want the man to do? In my opinion, they’re as bad as the Conservatives and the M.S.M.; he’s damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t. People need to shut up and see what the outcome is. After all, if Parliament had thought about the people in the first place, we wouldn’t be in this mess and our politicians wouldn’t be fighting each other, each determined to get their own way and certain that they and they alone know what the public voted for.

It wasn’t a 17.4 million majority, and I wonder why you mixed it up because 1.25 million is still significant. That’s 1/27 of the total, rather than 1/650. Apart from that, you make good points.

A People’s Vote is a mechanism to overturn the democratic vote. It is anti-democracy in the guise of democracy. For many who never voted Tory or New Labour this was the first national vote in which we voted with the majority, now people want to take a dump on it? You cannot serve a minority by ignoring the majority and expect there’s no price to be paid. Jeremy’s blown it. Too many working class will turn to the Brexit Party while I’ll vote Independent or spoil the paper. Nobody who takes away my vote gets my vote.

A lot of people come out with this “it was a democratic vote, get on with it!” Now politicians have voted 3 times and countless other alternative votes on changes and tweaks, they have the advantage of knowing a lot more about Brexit and its implications and yet they’ve had 3 votes on it, yet we only get one.
