POLL: Disability reassessment for pensioners to be phased out – but will all DWP changes be as good?

People receiving PIP who have reached State Pension age will no longer have their awards regularly reviewed, instead moving to a light touch review at 10 years. Nearly 290,000 people of State Pension age are in receipt of PIP.
From Friday, new claimants to PIP whose review would have been scheduled after they had reached State Pension age will receive an ongoing award with a light touch review at 10 years.
Applying this change to new claimants is the first step and it will be extended to existing PIP claimants above State Pension age in the coming months.
But what about this?
Other improvements include combining the separate assessment processes for PIP, Employment Support Allowance and Universal Credit into one integrated service from 2021.
The integrated service will simplify the assessment process for millions of people claiming health related benefits, reducing the need to submit information multiple times and for some people reducing the number of face-to-face assessments.
Simplifying the assessment process, for a Conservative, means making it harder for a UK taxpayer to access a state benefit.
I fear that combining the assessments for PIP, ESA and UC will mean joining the most draconian aspects of each in order to deprive claimants of the benefits they are due.
Time will tell if I’m right – but what do you think?

I didn’t vote because I simply don’t know what the effects will be, but never trust a Tory with anything related to Social Security!
It will mean that if you get plp and ESA separately, one assessment for both so instead of losing only benefit, you lose both, so you are left with nothing.
Its not or our Good. I bet it all gets consolidated into one big fat private contract and multi billions from public purse, and as I said going out the funds given to support disabled instead.
when i applied for pip, the forms took 4 of us a month to complete , it weighed 4.2 lbs …thats a lot of paper and baring in mind the cramps l get holding small objects suchas pens cutlery ect it was a complete nightmare and seeing as there is a time limit on sending said for back and only allowed one extension, then if you fail to fill it in on time you cannot claim pip for x-amount (not sure exactly total years) of years, but you know whats worse than that, people being sanctioned, getting 6 pounds for a family of 3 to live on for a month… the dad commits crime to feed his child …gets caught committing said crime and then no one will ever employ him, that what l saw on Benefits Britain, damned shocking if you ask me
i am with Trev… i never vote on things like this because i dont have a crystal ball. i can only hope it is for the good but knowing the past record of both the conservatives as a whole and esther Mcvey in particular, i cant see it doing anyone but them any good.only time will tell
To pay for these private assessors money will have to be taken out of the benefits budget, the only way to accomplish that is to reduce the amount of money paid to claimants, and how do you think they will achieve that?

To me thats saying that the people mentioned above wont HAVE to have anymore of the usual annual to 2 yearly assessments they have now (meaning LESS staff needed not more) but instead will have a lighter assessment done every 10 years.. again no staff needed for reassessing for 9 out of 10 years and only 1 day per person in that 10th year. this will save money for the government for 9 out of 10 years. and no stress on account of reassessments over that 10 years so less money needed for GPs budgets as stress levels will go down so less need of antidepressants.
my problem is..that whenever this govt do a “nice” thing it usually means something bad is coming at their hands.
