A nation reacts to the death of the Duke – with dazzling hypocrisy

Prince Philip: whatever we may have thought of him, the hypocrisy with which his death is being handled is due to the government and the media.

Is anyone else absolutely sickened by the hypocrisy of the UK Establishment following the death of the Duke of Edinburgh, or am I the only one?

I have already mentioned on Twitter the fact that Prince Philip, as (originally) a refugee who came to the UK from (originally) Greece, enjoyed an entirely different reception from other people who have came here from a foreign country under similar circumstances but with less impressive pedigrees.

I found it crushingly depressing that the nation was expected to stop everything to mourn the death of a man from such a background who had enjoyed extreme privilege, while at the same time the government was reopening a concentration camp for people whose stories aren’t significantly different from his.

Not only that, but I know I’m not the only one to notice that people have congregated in their thousands in central London to pay their respects – many of them disregarding social distancing rules completely…

… and the police have ignored it altogether.

Doubtless some of you will suggest that I shouldn’t be complaining; it’s better than having thousands of people clubbed over the head like seals, right?

But there’s a political message here: people mourning the passing of one of their “betters” is fine; protesting against the removal of their own rights will be met with blunt force.

Finally, isn’t it strange that all the TV channels and other mainstream media shut down all their programming in favour of solemn coverage of the passing of a man who had been the butt of ridicule for many years due to offensive comments he made, apparently without thinking.

These included telling European students in China, “If you stay here much longer, you’ll go slit-eyed.”

He allegedly insulted deaf children at a pop concert in Wales by saying, “No wonder you are deaf listening to this row.”

And when he and the Queen met Stephen Menary, an army cadet blinded by a Real IRA bomb, and the Queen enquired how much sight Mr Menary retained, he said: “Not a lot, judging by the tie he’s wearing.”

These and other incidents have been met with denials – either claims that they didn’t happen, that his intentions were misinterpreted, or that there was no harm done.

But it is hypocritical for the same media that published such reports – and criticism – to lead the solemnities at the time of his death.

It is hypocritical for the police to treat mourners who ignore social distancing rules differently from protesters.

And it is highly hypocritical for the Establishment to demand that we pay him the kind of respects we’ve seen, when people whose only difference from him is an accident of birth are being treated with no respect at all.

I see a different sight. He and the queen put together not like us chasing the girl of one’s dream but the two of them got on with it no separation for them they got on with the job yes he’s made mistakes but then so do we all. The job they do I and many others would last two weeks in it they can’t go out not like you and I stuck in a very drafty castles putting on extra jumpers on wouldn’t do to show the queen like this but no matter whot he did his duty to the nation has for the barracks it was good enough for squardies and charged for the privilege

What does any of that have to do with the hypocrisy shown by the Establishment and the media after his death?

I too am so angry at the blatant hypocrisy and stupidity of the gullible women and men ‘mourning the passing of a vile misogynistic, racist and arrogant male!’

Duke of Edinburgh enjoyed a very lavish lifestyle and this is why his arrogant and insulting comments to ordinary women, children and men were dismissed by the white male establishment as ‘just humour not deliberate insults!’

Fascist tories are delighted at the death of a royal duke because it ensures all malestream media focus is on glorifying and mythologising a vile man and NOT on the fascist policies of little fascist dictator dick johnson!

Fascist tories use common fascist tactics – ‘keep the plebs distracted and give them something to amuse themselves whilst we increase our dictatorship over them!’

Why haven’t the police boy thugs used their batons and shields to forcibly remove all those women, men and children congregating outside Windsor Castle??? This is a violation of the fascist tories’ current emergency laws – no crowds must be allowed to congregate – unless it benefits the fascist tories!

Will these same stupid and gullible women and men protest at this: fascist tories will soon be deporting thousands of adult women and men who arrived in little england as children and are now judged to be ‘illegal migrants!’ Of course not – they are non-humans whereas Duke of Edinburgh was a ‘real legal migrant!’

None so stupid as those plebs who refuse to see what is really happening our little england fascist dictatorship!

Normally I agree with everything you publish Sir. Normally but not today!

Yes he may have been racist and made crass comments. Yes he had a privileged life but he also fought for his adopted country in a world war. He acted as consort to the queen if you like her or hate her he has steadfastly stayed and supported her for over a normal lifetime. Was he rewarded hell yes, but he also worked for the country for a lifetime! Then we have all his Charity work I knotice you didn’t mention.

So let’s show some simple respect. OK maybe the cringing establishment has gone OTT as usual. That is bile inducing but they do this song and dance because there cowards and propagandists not Journalist! I can’t do bugger all about there BS. Yes the hypocrisy about the police is vile but to be expected and linking someone in a different generation to these vile camps sorry that low Sir you can do better!

For all he has given to this his adopted country a bit of respect and a dignified service and a few flowers isn’t to much now is it? I respect your viewpoint and I hope you can understand mine. I just feel if we don’t show respect to others after they pass but remember the flaws then we deserve no respect when we go…

I just wanted to give a different view. We can all go back to hating on the Tory scum soon enough!

We’ll have to disagree on this. I wasn’t making any comment about the service the Duke has done to the country, though – my point was that the response to his death has been hypocritical. That point stands up to your criticisms.
