New poll shows Jeremy Corbyn can win Islington North

If you believe in them, a new poll shows Jeremy Corbyn can win Islington North.

Survation and Novara Media just brought out a double poll on Islington North, putting Labour ahead by 14 points in a traditional poll against all other candidates, and Mr Corbyn in front by 10 points in a head-to-head with Labour.

And look at the increases and decreases in preference for each candidate. Labour’s Praful Nargund has lost 21.5 percentage points, while Mr Corbyn has gained 28.9.

The Tories are nowhere – on just six per cent, they are set to come last.

But they can still cause a headache for Mr Corbyn, as the latest email from his team makes clear:

The people of Islington North prefer Jeremy Corbyn as their independent MP to Labour’s imposed candidate.

But, we have three BIG challenges.

  1. There are still lots of Jeremy supporters who are intending to vote Labour thinking they’re voting for Jeremy.
  2. quarter of Labour voters in the traditional poll switch to Jeremy if it’s a straight choice between the two candidates – suggesting they might be worried about letting in the Tories.
  3. Greens and others prefer Jeremy to Labour – but need persuading to vote for him.

This is SERIOUS.

It is. Firstly: what kind of badly-mixed messaging are the media putting out in London, if the people of a constituency don’t even know who’s standing under what banner? As a reporter myself, I would say that was disgraceful.

Secondly: the way certain parties (<cough>Labour!</cough>) are still claiming the Tories are a threat if people – who weren’t going to vote for them anyway – support somebody other than them is even more of a disgrace.

Thirdly: it is a shame the Green Party could not bring itself to stand down its candidate in favour of Mr Corbyn, who many see as a natural ally.

The message continues:

We can only win this election if we can have real conversations with people in Islington North to explain that Jeremy is an independent candidate and why they should vote for him.

That will be the difference between winning or losing in Islington North.

Thanks to the HUGE efforts of so many of you, we’ve already knocked on tens of thousands of doors. But we only have eight days left.

It outlines three ways we can help:

On that subject, the June 26 canvassing sessions start at the Campaign Office, 89-93 Fonthill Road N4 3JH at 11am, 1pm, 3pm, 5pm & 6:30pm

And there will be a special Gunners 4 Corbyn canvass at 6pm from the Arsenal Gift Shop – wear your Arsenal kit.

What a crazy headline – he’s 14 points behind! Wouldn’t ‘Corbyn set to lose’ have made a lot more sense, and been more truthful?
