As Johnson announces premature relaxation of lockdown, his lapdog Keir Starmer applauds

Keir Starmer: This Site really needs another image of him but the smugness that oozes from this one really expresses what he’s all about.

Political opposition to our Conservative dictatorship is dead – at least, as far as the Labour Party under Keir Starmer is concerned.

Let’s be clear. This graphic explains the current position:

Scientists have made it clear that reducing social distancing now and reopening public-facing businesses would be premature:

But Keir Starmer, tail-wagging Tory puppy (or should that be puppet?) that he is, welcomed Boris Johnson’s announcement that he was easing the lockdown further:

“When I was elected leader of the Labour party, I said that I would offer ‘constructive opposition, with the courage to support the Government’ where they are doing the right thing. We will, of course, scrutinise the details of the announcement and study the guidance… but overall I welcome the Prime Minister’s statement. I believe that the Government are trying to do the right thing, and in that we will support them.”

It’s further evidence of Starmer’s lurch to the right-wing and it has been met with a chorus of outrage:

The real issue is that people may die after this premature decision – and Starmer has given it his blessing.

We cannot count on him to represent our best interests. We cannot count on Labour while he is in charge.

    New/Blue Labour 2.0

What is their purpose? What point is there in giving them your personal mandate via the ballot box? Why be a shy Tory?…..just go and vote for the original version.

    Viable Opposition?!?!……to what exactly?

All we need now is Rupert Mad Murdoch and his Sc*m rag to endorse Sir Keir, just like they did with Bliar, that’ll put the cherry on the cake.

Starmer says fascist dictator boris and his fascist tory minions are ‘doing the right thing?’ For whom??? Oh yes of course for the fascist wealthy tory boys because they are terrified their immense wealth will disappear!! What about the 66,000 women and men fascist dictator boris and his tory minions murdered? Don’t they count? Of course not – Starmer is a fake opposition leader and in reality he is fascist dictator boris’s puppet!

Democracy is dead – long live fascist toryism!

As a keen(ish) and definitely active Labour Party member, I accept that Starmer is a waste of space, or , worse, a grimly determined wrecker of hopes, whose whole aim is to position Labour as a centrist Party in order to win centrist votes to carry out centrist policies that change almost nothing. (But Labour will have WON! Hooray!”)(Is there a sarcasm emoji for this?)
But lets not forget a fundamental point. That there is life outside the Labour Party.
Was Colston’s statue toppled by Labour members after a monthly Branch meeting agreed to do it and then got the permission of the Party regional officials before proceeding? Of course not!

Did Black Lives Matter activists gather at their usual Labour CLP General Committee meeting to carefully craft some wonderful resolution to arrange some demonstrations? Of course not!

Political life is in ferment in this country DESPITE the Labour Party defeat and leadership servility. (Maybe it’s all kicking off BECAUSE the Labour Party is so hamstrung by not having any chance to meet together due to Covid19 and BECAUSE its leadership is so weak).

There is an undercurrent of radical opinion that bypasses the formal Labour Party structures and politics and may have to bypass it a whole lot more now that Starmer the Smarmer is the only Labour voice being heard.
    So be it!
Reluctantly, I may have to concede that the Labour Party is really only for elections and a few ideas. It’s not there for everyday politics.
Fortunately, there are plenty of campaigns to get involved in that do not need Labour membership and support to give them credibility. If we campaign successfully outside of the moribund (deliberately made so) structures of the Party, the Party leadership may have to fall into line with members more radical wishes despite their own treacherous beliefs. After all, even Tory Boris Johnson has just had to concede to the summer lunch campaign led by non-Tory Marcus Rashford.
Let’s us NOT hang on Starmer’s every word and let us NOT regard getting Labour leadership approval as the our only aim. Just don’t trust the Labour Party to bring about the change we need. And I say that as a member!
