Cowardly Keir Starmer won't condemn Israel for firing on UN peacekeepers

Israel has embraced a new role as a terrorist state

Israel has embraced a new role as a terrorist state by implanting explosives into technological devices and detonating them indiscriminately.

There have now been two waves of these attacks. The first was centred on pagers that, it was believed, were being used by Hezbollah in Lebanon to communicate without being detected – although This Writer would question the authenticity of that claim when placed next to an additional claim that they were part of a recent shipment into that country.

At least 4,000 people were injured, many horrifically (including the Iranian ambassador), and at least 12 killed, including nine-year-old Fatima Jaafar Abdullah. Local reports said they were among many innocent bystanders who were hit, including children, doctors and other health workers.

This tends to suggest that claims by Israeli sources who said the devices targeted Hezbollah officials are not true.

It seems more likely that this was an indiscriminate attack – especially as the devices were triggered in the middle of the day, when it would be highly likely that any wearer may be in a crowded location and innocent people may be injured.

Indiscriminate attacks of this manner are terrorism and breaches of international law, and should be denounced as such.

The second wave seems to have used walkie-talkies and more pagers, but mobile phones and solar panels are also alleged to have been used, along with batteries that were not inside any devices at all.

At least 14 people were killed and more than 450 wounded in the attacks, which were again indiscriminate, again acts of terrorism, again breaches of international law. Health workers said between 60 and 70 per cent of victims lost eyes and limbs.

Reports indicate that Israel’s intelligence agency, Mossad, may have planted explosives in pagers and walkie-talkies that were shipped to Lebanon. These devices were reportedly tampered with during their supply chain journey, while they were in transit through other countries.

The technology behind this involves embedding small amounts of explosives within the devices, which can then be triggered remotely, possibly through a specific message sent to the device.

It has been suggested that this method is a highly sophisticated approach that demonstrates significant advancements in remote detonation technology and allows for precise targeting and timing of the explosions.

But – again – it is clear that the explosions were not precisely timed or targeted; they were all set off at once, without any concern over whether innocents would be injured or killed.

Israel has apparently accepted responsibility for the crimes, with Defence Minister Yoav Gallant announcing the start of an “extensive campaign” in the north – and of course Lebanon is north of Israel.

No wonder the United Nations General Assembly has now voted overwhelmingly for Israel to immediately end its occupation of Palestine and withdraw all its forces and settlements – and for all UN member states to end any trade with Israel that might in any way support or strengthen the occupation.

Shamefully, the UK abstained on the resolution, which is non-binding but stands as a strong message to Israel that it has disgraced itself in the eyes of civilised nations.
