‘Compassionate Conservatism’: Covid deaths to cut state pension costs, says BBC

This BBC story could explain much about the Corporation’s wholehearted support for Rishi Sunak, even though he’s utterly vile.

The Beeb presents as a good news story the deaths of so many over-65s that the cost of paying pensions is set to plummet by £1.5 billion by 2022.

And wait! because there’s even more Good News!

The government will also receive an extra £0.9bn from inheritance tax, partly due to Covid-related deaths.

Every cloud has a silver lining, eh? As in thirty pieces of silver, if you recognise the reference.

Here’s an interesting slip, though:

More than 144,000 deaths involving Covid-19 have occurred in the UK since the start of the pandemic, figures published by the UK’s statistics agencies show.

That’s 21,000 more than the official figure of 123,000 at the time of writing.

I think somebody’s been lying again – don’t you?

Come on – the report does not say ‘good news’ anywhere!
    The tone is neutral.

Each to their own opinion. I think this is an attempt to portray the deaths as good news because it creates a cash saving for the government. Note that nowhere in the BBC story are the deaths presented as tragic, even though that is what they undoubtedly are. The focus is only on the money.

hi do you know why the budget hasnt uplifted legacy benefits.? im disabled and am finding it very expensive since the virus began i spent alot of time in and out of hospital last year..having to get cabs to all appiintments..cost of my shopping has doubled and having to pay delivety charges aswell..i am now falling behind with my other bills which wwee affordable before the virus..a 0.35 pence increase to legacy benefits is pathetic…and discrimination against the more needy.. i tried to email mp and had no responae atall.. the gov is a total disgrace to this country..with no regard for human life..
they got what they wanted.. killed loads of penaioners and disabled persons so there would not be debt associated with the virus.. infact in 3-5years thet would have mass profits from the loss of lives during the Pandemic.. keep the good work up Mike stay safe n well stella

I think you know why legacy benefits aren’t being increased. Tories love to persecute the sick and disabled.
