Jeremy Corbyn WILL accept second referendum – but can’t rely on Tories to force election

Jeremy Corbyn: He shouldn’t bank on Tories doing what he expects.

Here’s the thing: Conservative MPs want a Conservative government in power. They don’t care about anything else – certainly not the good of the United Kingdom.

People need to understand that.

It is unrealistic for the Labour leader to expect Conservatives, who don’t want Theresa May following her current course, to give up power because of it.

I’m not ruling it out, because stranger things have happened recently.

I just wouldn’t count on it.

Jeremy Corbyn plans to use Tory Brexit rebels to force PM Theresa May into a General Election as early as November.

And the Labour leader will reluctantly back a second EU referendum if his party conference calls for it.

In his only newspaper interview as delegates gathered in Liverpool, Mr Corbyn said: “If this Government can’t deliver Brexit then it must move over and have a General Election.”

To do this Mr Corbyn’s MPs and Tories from Jacob Rees-Mogg’s European Research Group of Brexiteers would vote together against Mrs May’s Chequers plan.

Labour set six tests for any final deal including a strong relationship with Europe, the same rights, protections and benefits we have now and fair migration to boost Britain’s economy.

We need to sort out the incompetence of this Government, ;”Brexit was voted on a pack lies and now after two years we can see that leaving the EU will destroy many jobs and our economy…the Tories must do the right thing, but i wouldn’t hold my breath

So, Corbyn wants to ally with Boris and JR-M to get an election. OK. If election then won by Tories, not only is the UK non-millionnair population doomed but Corbyn will lose all credibility.

A third referendum on leaving the EU as demanded by the pissed off elite before the last vote has been enacted can either enhance our position on leaving or demote us to a white flag waning capitulation that shows the EU we are weak and malleable and we will be Phukt forever

I suspect the Tories will do everything possible to cling precariously to power, however much against the national interest they will just cling on.

I agree, Mike. The Tories have an historical role of clinging to power in order to protect the establishment. Come what may.
In a recent pub chat amongst local Labour members, we all grinned and gave the “thumbs up” to the idea of a General Election as soon as possible. “Bring it on!” Etc.
But it struck me that , if we keen Labour members are so enthused at the thought of an election, then, surely, Tories will dread one, assuming the same result as us ie a Corbyn government. If the Tory government under Theresa May is truly threatened, even Rees-Mogg will prove to be as much a poser and pantomime rebel as Boris Johnson. He would not dare to risk a Labour victory by creating even more dissension in Tory ranks.

Tories have a different role to Labour. They need to cling to power regardless of their overt policies , simply to keep the system going. So political conflict will be dropped if necessary because “their people”, the rich and powerful, will retain power regardless of internal arguments. But Labour has the problem that “our people” ,”the many not the few”, struggle to enjoy any wealth and power and it is really important that we have the right policies to redress the balance. The Blair/Brown years showed us that neo-liberal policies do not change the balance of power in this country.
    We need better policies.
But , for the Tories, whether led by Cameron, May or Johnson, the result is always the same. The establishment rule the roost, in or out of the EU.
