BoJob’s £850m hospitals bonanza is another lie – claim

“Look at me!” says Boris Johnson. “I’m giving £850 million to improve hospitals in England. Hoorah!”

But it isn’t new money – it seems to be coming from currently-budgeted cash set aside for hospitals that achieved spending cuts demanded by Theresa May’s regime.

Meanwhile, we hear that hospitals are in dire need of maintenance improvements costing £6 billion.

Where will BoJob find that money? No response.

It won’t come from cancelling his planned vanity project – the so-called HS3 rail route across the north of England that will cost £39 billion (prices subject to increase, of course).

You have to wonder about the new PM’s priorities, don’t you?

Faced with a chance to do some real good to  a huge proportion of the populace, he would still rather build a folly that won’t make much of a difference to its users.

Still, once HS3 is done, at least he’ll be able to put his name on it.

Twenty hospitals in England due to receive an extra £850m funding for upgrades to outdated facilities and new equipment have been revealed.

But a healthcare charity said the money risked being a “drop in the ocean”.

Responding to the funding announcement, the Health Foundation[‘s] Ben Gershlick [said] NHS facilities in England were “in major disrepair”, with a £6bn maintenance backlog.

Labour’s shadow health secretary, Jonathan Ashworth, told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme there was “huge scepticism” about whether the funding was new, suggesting it came from money previously promised to hospitals for cutting costs.

The funding pledge comes during a week of health policy announcements by the government, with Health Secretary Matt Hancock expected to announce pension changes aimed at ending staffing problems.

Boris is full of it. I think even HS3 has an ulterior motive (other than his vanity), once completed it will enable them to expect workers to travel to do menial jobs, people in Sheffield can flip burgers in Manchester, people in Manchester can clean toilets in Leeds, or wipe bottoms in Huddersfield or Stockport or wherever the damned train goes.
