‘English independence’ supporters don’t even know where England is

The news is mostly bad so let’s laugh at some right-wing loonies:

Have YOU donated to my crowdfunding appeal, raising funds to fight false libel claims by TV celebrities who should know better? These court cases cost a lot of money so every penny will help ensure that wealth doesn’t beat justice.

It looks more like a “Brexitland” map than a map of England. Then again, with most of the Welsh residents who voted in the referendum mirroring the English “Leave ” vote, perhaps they will be happy to just merge with England and call themselves the “Western English”.

OK,OK , I am just being facetious. I know that the areas of Wales with most Welsh speakers voted to Remain.

(Though the areas of South Wales that received most EU financial help voted “Leave”.)

Overall, the map reveals more about how English reactionaries see the UK than anything else. Though I was curious to see reference to an English “Republic”!

This is an odd quirk of this particular grouping. English Nationalism has been uniformly Right-Wing and authoritarian with nostalgic yearnings for an imaginary past which always includes a much-loved Royal Family ,caring for their grateful subjects.

Am I the only English Socialist who would welcome Scottish independence and the gradual re-merging of the two parts of Ireland outside the UK. And the eventual achievement of Welsh independence as well. As England and “Englishness” is the heartland of Toryism, we English Socialists will just have to put up with being in an overwhelmingly Right-Wing little backwater. We have had a lot of practice.

There is no way on this good green Earth that the people of Wales would ever accept merging with England to become “western English”!

I would love to laugh but the twitter link comes up with a corrupt data error.

That may be your problem rather than any other issue.
