Keir Starmer's statement about October 7 is full of falsehoods

Labour’s position on genocidal Israel is meaningless, says Jeremy Corbyn

Labour’s position on genocidal Israel is meaningless, says Jeremy Corbyn – attracting immediate derision from right-wingers.

Together with his colleagues in the Independent Alliance of Westminster MPs, Mr Corbyn has said calling for a ‘ceasefire’ while arming and defending Israel is meaningless and does nothing to bring an end to the Israeli aggression that has murdered tens of thousands in Gaza and now more than 1,000 people in Lebanon.

“The Labour government has continued to provide political, diplomatic, economic and military support to Israel while it carries out a genocide in Gaza,” their statement claims.

“Its failure to demand an adherence to international law has allowed the horror we have witnessed in Gaza to spill into the wider region, including in Lebanon.

“In his speech to the United Nations, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu brazenly mapped out his intention to escalate tensions in the Middle East.

“He ruled out any peace deals, laid bare his desire for conflict with Iran, and revelled in the death and destruction his government is waging, claiming “we are winning”.

“There are no winners in this war.

“In the last few days alone over 700 Lebanese have been killed and six residential apartment blocks flattened. In Gaza, over 41,000 people have been killed and 90,000 wounded. The UN General Secretary has described the situation as a ‘living hell.

“‘Two million Palestinians are now crammed into a space the size of the Shanhai International Airport, existing – not living, but existing – among lakes of sewage, piles of rubbish and mountains of rubble.’

“We demand nothing less than a full arms embargo, economic sanctions and ceasing of diplomatic support to Israel.”

Mr Corbyn has added,

Of course, his call for peace has attracted harsh comments from right-wing warmongers, many of whom suggested he was a racist who was simply upset because his “friend” Hassan Nasrallah had been killed in an Israeli bombardment. Just cast your eyes down the comments attached to the X post above, and feel the hate.

Particularly shocking are claims that Gaza has not been subjected to genocide.

These people deliberately ignore the facts or distort them in order to present a false impression of those they have decided to demonise – like Mr Corbyn, or anybody who wants peace.

They are the enemy within our own country (and others, if they live abroad).
